With 15 key players coming back, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons should pull off back-to-back seasons at the top of the ACC Atlantic Division. The Deacs will definitely have to earn it though, as they face a difficult schedule with big red targets on their backs in 2007. Getting the Seminoles at home should give Wake the difference making win to capture the Atlantic title. If that game were played in Tallahassee, we may have saw things shaping up just a little bit differently.

The Florida State Seminoles boast a rock solid defensive unit with size, strength, and speed. Shaky QB play must be ironed out to get the offense back into the well-oiled machine that it has been historically. A tough late season schedule with games at Boston College and Virginia could really cool off the Sems.

Boston College QB Matt Ryan is, perhaps, the best player on the offensive side of the ball in the entire conference because of the calm he shows in clutch spots. 17 other starters return to make the Eagles solid once again. We see a tough stretch with four of their final six games on the road knocking them out of title contention. If they can find a way to win these projected close games, the Eagles could be the sleeper in the Atlantic.

Clemson has an effective run game with the Davis-Spiller tandem attack. I don’t really see many defenses shutting these boys down with the exception, of maybe, Florida State and it does not bode well that the Tigers must face the Seminoles in the first game of the season. When the expectations are high Tommy Bowden’s team has buckled under pressure. You can pencil Clemson into the fourth place position in 2007.

Tom O’Brien steps into the head coach roll and should provide the North Carolina State Wolf Pack with some necessary discipline. The losses of over half of the starting defensive unit and their valuable special teams punter and kicker will be obstacles that won’t be overcome. An inexperienced secondary will get dominated by nearly every team through the air in 2007.

The Maryland Terps have offensive capabilities with a stout line, solid backs, and speedy wide outs, however, the defense is lacking in the talent department. Maryland’s 9-4 mark was astonishing last season, but a return to earth will happen this time around as a lackluster defense and no clear capable QB is ready to perform.
