1st Place – New England Patriots – Not only are the New England Patriots the favorites to take the AFC East Division, they are also the clear favorites to win the Super Bowl. By improving their linebackers corps with Adalius Thomas and their wide receiver corps with Donte Stallworth and Randy Moss, the Patriots have no apparent weakness for their opponents to exploit. Patriots players, coaches, management, and fans will see this season as a complete disappointment if it doesn’t end in Super Bowl glory.
2nd Place – New York Jets – The Jets were the best story in football outside of the New Orleans Saints mounting a six-game turnaround from their 2005 campaign under first year head coach Eric Mangini. A healthy Chad Pennington was a huge reason for New York’s success and gaining a top notch back in Thomas Jones in the offseason should have this offensive unit able to put some points on the board. We will likely see a little bit of a drop off in 2007 however, not because this team won’t be as good, but because they overachieved slightly last season.
3rd Place – Buffalo Bills – The Bills will be one of the best teams in the league who is rebuilding which means that they are waiting for youngsters to mature and will miss the playoffs this season. Marshawn Lynch shows great promise as the offensive focal point of this franchise, but it appears to me that J.P. Losman is not a Pro Bowl quality QB that will bring championships to this franchise. Last season’s seven win campaign was a little ahead of schedule so we’ll expect the Bills to plateau in 2007.
4th Place – Miami Dolphins – Everything appears to be going in the right direction for the Dolphins. Now they just need a few more pieces and some time. Cam Cameron is an upgrade taking over head coaching duties from Nick Saban. He is the offensive mind that this franchise needs. Last season’s fourth overall defensive unit is still in tact under Dom Capers. We can expect Jason Taylor to terrorize NFL backfields once again. But this team does not have a starting QB who can get the fish in the postseason. Improvement, but not enough to get out of the gutter in 2007. If Cameron can find a QB in 2008, these boys will be ready to challenge.
