2007 NFC East Odds

The Philadelphia Eagles have ruled the NFC East for the better part of this decade. Even when some thought they were down and out last season, they mounted a miraculous comeback to reach the playoffs yet again. This team has several NFC title games under their belts and even a Super Bowl appearance so experience is definitely on their side. With All-Pro QB Donovan McNabb returning healthy in 2007, we will make the Eagles our pick to win this division hands down. The fact that we are getting some bang for our buck with this bet makes it even sweeter. There’s no way that the Dallas Cowboys, who still have a young, unproven QB in my book and a new head coach for players to adjust to, will be ready to compete with Philly’s established roster.

Romo has gotten so much hype being the QB of “America’s team” that I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a sophomore slump out of him. The Giants have showed us that something is missing in the Big Apple. Eli Manning just might not be the right guy to feed a talented corps of wide outs and with Tiki Barber now retired, the Giants have big shoes to fill in the backfield. Washington will definitely bring up the rear in this division as nothing worked on either side of the ball last season and the Skins have a whole host of things to work out.

The Eagles will be even stronger in 2007 because Brian Westbrook showed the ability to be an every down threat in McNabb’s absence last season. Teams will now have to respect his playmaking ability at all times.

Philly’s defense is what gives them the definite edge however. These boys blitz 3 out of 4 downs to constantly keep the pressure on their opponents. I love this philosophy of dictating the tempo of the game and forcing offenses to run quick hitters. It’s easier to know what’s coming when you take so much away.

Take the Eagles at +175 to win the NFC East this season and don’t think twice.
