2008 AFC West Predictions
Find out who’s the best in the west in Jeff Alexander’s 2008 AFC West predictions. Make sure you check out all of Jeff’s other 2008 NFL predictions as well to aid you with your futures betting.
1st- San Diego Chargers: 7-1 odds to win the Super Bowl
For three years running the Chargers have had arguably the most talent in the AFC, but they have not been able to break through into the Super Bowl. At least they were able to win a playoff game last season, and perhaps they would have been Super Bowl bound if three key offensive weapons were not hobbled or out in the AFC title game. L.T.’s health is vital now that backup Michael Turner is off to Atlanta. No one will come close to the Chargers in the West, but they are going to have to prove they can beat the other elite AFC team’s come playoff time. The betting line on San Diego is 1-4 odds to win the AFC West division at BodogLife.com.
2nd – Denver Broncos: 50-1 odds to win the Super Bowl
The Broncos appeared to have enough talent for a 10-win season in 2007, but they dipped under the .500 mark for only the second time in Mike Shanahan’s tenure instead and the offense has never looked worse. With consecutive seasons of declining wins something had to be done and that something was the firing of GM Ted Sundquist. The Broncos signed potential starting receivers Darrell Jackson and Keary Colbert and used their first two picks in the draft of tackle Ryan Clady and receiver/return man Eddie Royals. The offense surely can’t be as bad as it was a year ago, but Denver appears at least another year out from getting back to the playoffs. The betting line on Denver is 9-2 odds to win the AFC West Division at BodogLife.com.
3rd – Oakland Raiders: 50-1 odds to win the Super Bowl
Yes, it looks like the Raiders will get out of the basement this season. The Raiders plan on handing the team over to last year’s No. 1 overall draft pick JaMarcus Russell and they brought in receiver Javon Walker and drafted Darren McFadden to put some talent around him. The defense has been solid the past couple season and with a better offensive showing, the Raiders could be looking at six wins. The betting line on Oakland is 8-1 odds to win the AFC West Division at BodogLife.com.
4th – Kansas City Chiefs: 100-1 odds to win the Super Bowl
It’s hard to believe that the Chiefs were a 13-win team as recent as 2003 and enjoyed a 10-win season in 2005 and a 9-win season in 2006. K.C. won just 4 games in 2007 and it looks like it will be even worse in 2008. The Chiefs officially declared themselves a team in rebuilding mode when they traded NFL sack champion Jared Allen to load up in the draft. Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, offensive tackle Branden Albert, cornerback Brandon Flowers, and safety DaJuan Morgan should all see significant action in their rookie seasons. What the Chiefs have not done yet is do something to better their QB situation. They’re sticking with Damon Huard and Brodie Croyle for now, but neither of these guys appears to be the type of player capable of turning around an offense. The betting line on Kansas City is 12-1 odds to win the AFC West Division at BodogLife.com.
e-sports.com lists its AFC West Predictions as well, but think Oakland will be in the basement again.
