Big 12 South

1st Place: Oklahoma Sooners: +150 to win Big 12 at BetUS.com

The Oklahoma Sooners are capable of winning the Big 12 and a national title with QB Sam Bradford at the controls.  The Sooners boast the nation’s best collective offensive and defensive fronts to boot.  Perhaps Oklahoma’s only weak spot is a young secondary.

2nd Place – Texas Longhorns: +200 to win Big 12 at BetUS.com

Texas will not have trouble scoring points with QB Colt McCoy putting his entire arsenal on display this season.  Expect to see the athletic QB look to run the ball even more in 2008.  The defense is stout against the run, but it remains susceptible against the pass in a conference filled with good QB’s.

3rd Place – Texas Tech Red Raiders: +800 to win Big 12 at BetUS.com

The expectations are high for Texas Tech with 36 returning players and a potent offense taking the field.  The combination of QB Graham Harrell to receiver Michael Crabtree should be a deadly one.  The Red Raiders haven’t won an outright conference title since 1955 and it will stay that was because the defense isn’t yet up to snuff.

4th Place – Texas A&M Aggies: +2000 to win Big 12 at BetUS.com

The Aggies have a great running back in Mike Goodson, but he doesn’t have a solid offensive line to run behind.  Yards will be hard to come by.  Head coach Mike Sherman will have to use his enthusiasm to get more out of an underachieving outfit.

5th Place – Oklahoma State Cowboys: +2500 to win Big 12 at BetUS.com

Any chance OSU has of contending rests with defensive improvement, but that is too big of a mountain to climb in just one year for a team which ranked 101st in total defense nationally.

6th Place – Baylor Bears: +6000 to win Big 12 at BetUS.com

New head coach Art Briles faces a tall order in trying to get the Bears competitive in the tough Big 12 South.  Baylor ranked 111th in points per game and 112th in points allowed per game.  If you can’t score and you can’t stop anybody, it’s tough to win.

Big 12 North

1st Place – Missouri Tigers: +300 to win Big 12 at BetUS.com

Heisman Trophy finalist QB Chase Daniel makes the Tigers a national championship contender, but just like last year, the road goes through Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship game.

2nd Place – Kansas Jayhawks: +600 to win Big 12 at BetUS.com

The soft schedule of 2007 which helped the Jayhawks reach a 12-1 record is gone.  They must play Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech this year.  The schedule is too tough for the Jays to recreate their 2007 level of success, but they’ll still be very competitive.

3rd Place – Colorado Buffaloes: +1000 to win Big 12 at BetUS.com

The Buffs will continue their steady progress in their third season under Dan Hawkins.  QB Cody Hawkins gives Colorado a strong leader, but key defensive losses will keep this team in the middle of the pack.

4th Place – Nebraska Corn Huskers: +1000 to win Big 12 BetUS.com

Another rebuild begins for one of college football’s most storied teams.  There’s no doubt that Bo Pelini has his work cut out for him in his head coaching debut.  A veteran offensive line will give QB Joe Ganz and running back Marlon Lucky room to maneuver, but the worst defense in school history has a ways to go.

5th Place – Kansas State Wildcats: +4000 to win Big 12 at BetUS.com

Ron Prince and his staff must be feeling the heat after bringing in 19 junior college transfers to try to win now.  This desperate attempt has disaster written all over it.

6th Place – Iowa State Cyclones: +7500 to win Big 12 at BetUS.com

Iowa State got a nice schedule draw with Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech left off of it, but they still have a lot of ground to cover.  Going to battle with a new QB will set them back this year.
