2008 NFC East Predictions

The NFL season is right around the corner and 2006 NFL Handicapping Champion Jeff Alexander is here to get you ready for another big season with his 2008 NFL predictions.  He’ll start things off by weighing the NFC with his 2008 NFC East predictions.

1st – Dallas Cowboys: 6-1 odds to win the Super Bowl

The Cowboys finished as the best team in the NFC in the regular season.  That’s not good enough for owner Jerry Jones who is looking desperately for another Lombardi Trophy.  Dallas picked up another talented weapon through the draft in Arkansas speedster Felix Jones.  He and Marion Barber should become one of the league’s best one-two punches.  You’ll hear plenty of Romo to T.O. and Romo to Witten again as well.  The defense is deep and talented.  The Cowboys look like the class of the East again and are a legit Super Bowl contender.  The betting line on Dallas is 4-5 odds to win the NFC East Division at BodogLife.com.

2nd – New York Giants: 16-1 odds to repeat as Super Bowl champs

The New York football Giants were on the hot seat collectively last season and they thrived under the pressure.  They beat Dallas in the playoffs, after losing the two regular season meetings, and took down the mighty Patriots in the Super Bowl, spoiling their quest for a perfect season.  Eli Manning was successful late in the season and in the playoffs because he was smart with the football, but has he really arrived as an elite NFL signal caller.  He’ll have to prove himself again in 2008 as team’s will continue to make Eli beat them and not the Giants powerful running attack – led by bruiser Brandon Jacobs.  The losses of Jeremy Shockey and Michael Strahan will hurt some, but the Giants still have enough talent to be right in the thick of things in the East.   The betting line on New York is 3-1 odds to win the NFC East Division at BodogLife.com.

3rd – Philadelphia Eagles: 20-1 odds to win the Super Bowl

This division got three teams in the postseason a year ago and it likely will again.  This time it will be the Eagles instead of the Redskins.  The Eagles could actually tie for second in what should be a very tight division race.  But ultimately, we all know that the success of this team hinges on the health of Donovan McNabb and this is his last chance.  Anything but an injury-free, spectacular season will likely see him playing elsewhere in 2009.  Brian Westbrook will continue to be one of the most versatile backs in football and the addition of rookie return man DeSean Jackson will hopefully add even more firepower.  Getting the best available corner on the market, Asante Samuel, shores up the secondary.  The betting line on Philadelphia is 10-3 odds to win the NFC East Division at BodogLife.com.

4th – Washington Redskins: 40-1 odds to win the Super Bowl

The Redskins are hoping that the addition of star defensive end Jason Taylor will get them back in the postseason, but it is not likely as the other teams in this division appear to have a leg up.  It’s going to be a different feel in D.C. without Joe Gibbs at the helm and it will take some time for the players to adjust to new head man Jim Zorn who is unproven.  He plans of installing the West Coast offense, but I’m not sure if QB Jason Campbell is good enough to run it effectively. Time will tell, but it looks like last place for now.  The betting line on Washington is 13-2 odds to win the NFC East Division at BodogLife.com.
