2008 NFC West Predictions

Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

During the summer months we start preparing for the upcoming season of NFL betting by taking a look at the Super Bowl odds, win totals, and divisional odds to win.  Today we are going to focus in on the NFC West and give some predictions for 2008.

Arizona Cardinals

Over 8 Wins: -130
Under 8 Wins: -110

There aren’t many experts out there who think that the Cardinals are better than a .500 team, so the odds makers seem to have pinned the value down on Arizona.  If I had to pick which way they would go, up or down, from the 8-8 mark though I would have to take the UNDER.  Offensively they seem to have some weapons in receivers Larry Fitzpatrick and Anquan Boldin, plus running back Edgerrin James.  Defensively they need to make some big strides if they hope to get over the hump.  I’m not sold on Matt Leinart either, who hasn’t lived up to the hype.

San Francisco 49ers

Over 6.5 wins: -130
Under 6.5 wins: -110

San Francisco just hasn’t been able to get things going on offense, and that is why they brought in the mastermind Mike Martz.  It’s going to take more than one season to get this team putting points on the board though as I don’t see Martz having his kind of guys on this roster.  This team doesn’t have any great wide receivers, and Alex Smith has a lot of question marks to go with his lack of weapons.  The defense should be more than respectable, but the problems the 49ers will have putting points on the board makes us want to go with the UNDER here.

Seattle Seahawks

Over 8.5 Wins: -165
Under 8.5 Wins: +125

Seattle just keeps on plugging along and winning the NFC West, four straight times to be exact and we don’t see anyone taking over the reigns from them this year.  Shaun Alexander is gone, so we’ll hve to see how the running back by committee goes.  At quarterback the team is more than set with Matt Hasselbeck.  The Seahawks also have a decent corps of receivers, even though there isn’t a real standout in the bunch.  On defense this team is the best in the division.  I know the OVER isn’t showing that much value with the high juice, but looking at their six division games, it’ll be easy for us to see them picking up five wins there, plus the rest of the schedule looks manageable so I’m going with the OVER here.

St. Louis Rams

Over 6.5 Wins: -160
Under 6.5 Wins: +120

We think that the Rams are going to be one of those teams that will come up on teams this year.  It’s going to be tough for us to picture them taking over Seattle for the division title, but St. Louis will be much better than they have been the past couple of years.  The offensive line last year was decimated by injuries, so having those players back healthy arleady has the Rams in a better spot.  If the line can protect Marc Bulger then he should have another breakout season, plus the running game is set with Steven Jackson.  This team also has hte no. 2 pick in the draft with Chris Long, but it’ll be interesting to see if he’s ready to contribute right away.  I like the over here because this team has a real good shot at finishing 8-8.
