2008 NFL Predictions
Jeff Alexander’s 2008 NFL predictions unveil his four division winners in each conference and his two wild card picks in each league. Check out Jeff’s 2009 Super Bowl predictions to see who he likes to hoist the Lombardi Trophy this season.
NFC East – Dallas Cowboys: -110 to win the NFC East at BetUS.com
The Cowboys were the best team in the NFC in 2007 and with the addition of offensive weapon Felix Jones to bolster the running game and defensive weapon Adam “Pacman” Jones to bolster the secondary and return units, the Boys will be the team to beat again.
NFC North – Minnesota Vikings: +150 to win the NFC North at BetUS.com
The Vikes already boasted the best run defense in football and now they bring in NFL sack leader Jared Allen to better the pass defense. Adrian Peterson’s rookie performance gives us no reason to believe that he won’t be one of the best running backs in football again. The Vikes will be playoff bound, but once there, they’ll only go as far as QB Tarvaris Jackson can take them.
NFC South – New Orleans Saints: +120 to win the NFC South at BetUS.com
We might actually see some defense in New Orleans to go along with its prolific offense. That undoubtedly means a NFC South title for the Saints. Adding USC defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis with the 7th overall pick and Indiana cornerback Tracy Porter in the second round along with five other key defensive free agents has major defensive improvement on the way.
NFC West – Seattle Seahawks: -135 odds to win the NFC West at BetUS.com
The Seahawks are still the class of the West division. They’ll lean on an underrated defense and the right arm of Pro Bowl QB Matt Hasselbeck once again in 2008. If the additions of Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett can rebuild a once prominent running attack, the Sea Birds could surprise come playoff time.
NFC Wild Cards – New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles
Last season it was the Cowboys, Red Skins, and Giants. This season I believe the best division in the NFC gets three teams in as well. This time it’s the Cowboys, Giants, and Eagles. Of these two teams, the defending Super Bowl champs will have the best shot at doing something in the postseason.
AFC East – New England Patriots: -1000 to win AFC East at BetUS.com
The Patriots will be back in 2008 with Tom Brady, Randy Moss, and Wes Welker along with something to prove. With Miami, Buffalo, and New York all still rebuilding, the Pats will come out of the East easily.
AFC North – Pittsburgh Steelers: +110 to win the AFC North at BetUS.com
The Steelers have one of the toughest schedules in the NFL, but they have been the class of this division and they will emerge as the division champs again. Big Ben is coming off a stellar season and the defense was the best in the league in Mike Tomlin’s first season.
AFC South – Indianapolis Colts: -160 to win the AFC South at BetUS.com
The Colts have overcome the injury bug and key free agency losses to continue to rule the South. With this being the first season that Indy has not had to deal with a major loss in free agency, we can expect it to take the top spot again. Peyton Manning and Bobby Sanders captain their respective sides of the football to make the Colts a legit Super Bowl contender.
AFC West – San Diego Chargers: -400 to win the AFC West at BetUS.com
The Chargers have some of the best talent in the NFL on both sides of the football. Now it’s time to get something done with it in the postseason. San Diego will run away with a weak division and anything less than the Super Bowl will be considered a failure.
AFC Wildcards – Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns
The Jags will be a tough team to stop again, but not being able to conquer Indy puts them in the playoffs in the Wild Card role. The Browns will continue to emerge following a 10-win season and get into the playoffs this time around.
