Bad 2009 NFL Teams

Mark Franco has been one of the soundest NFL handicapping services in the business the last five seasons. If you need help with your NFL gambling on Sunday thentake a look at what he has to offer.

This has been a strange season so far in the National Football League to say the least. The sportsbooks can’t seem to makes spreads high enough for some of the stronger chalk.

Week seven on October 25th was the worst of all seven weeks this year for Nevada sportsbooks and could go down as one of the worst ever. The official Nevada Sportsbook counts were not out as of this article. But when chalk go 10-3-1 against the point spread we acknowledge the wagerers have a field-day and the books get buried.

By my report the chark are now in the range of 56% to 58% against the number (not including ties) on the 2009 NFL season depending on your sportsbooks numbers and when you placed your wagers.

But the question is should wagerers believe like most seasons this tendency will even out with dogs biting back in the second half of the season. Most years I would say yes, but because of some awful and completely bad teams I think the chalk can increase the winning rate even more.

I’ll start with the St. Louis Rams who are 0-7 and 2-5 against the spread. They have lost two games by getting blanked and are giving up an average of 30 points per game. They will be double-digit underdogs in almost every game left this year.

The Oakland Raiders do have two wins this year, but are an awful team and have one of the worst offenses putting up just nine-points per game. The Raiders may only be favored one time from here to the end of the year. They have lost games by 20, 23, 37 and 38 points. This is not a team I can have my cash on no matter how much the linesmakers give Oakland.

The Tampa Bay Bucs switched head coaches in the off-season letting a respectable guy like Jon Gruden go and that has just made things worse. The Bucs are 0-7 and have cashed just 1 of 7 games so far. The defense is ceding 29 point a game and their offense is posting just fewer than two touchdowns. Tampa Bay will not be favored in any game left on their docket this season.

The Tennessee Titans fall from grace was a fast one as they won 13 games a year ago. This year they are tanking losing all seven of their games while covering just one. They have the worst defense in the league after seven weeks giving up 33-points a game.

On a high-note the strongest surprise of the year is the Denver Denver is sitting at 7-0 and covering every game for their backers. The New Orleans Saints have also been undefeated straight-up and against the spread. The Saints are averaging just less than 40 points per game.
