Notre Dame at Michigan Betting Lines
Even though there is a huge game this week taking place, doesn’t mean that all eyes should be focuses there. USC travels to Ohio State to face off against the Buckeyes at the Horseshoe, so there will be plenty of media attention on this great matchup. With that said, we’re going to concentrate on another key game, our matchup of the week is Notre Dame taking on the Michigan Wolverines. Both of these teams looked dominant in their respective openers, and now the pressure is on for the two honored programs to see which can continue in the right direction and avoid an early-season loss.
Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis plausibly couldn’t have expected a better start to the season last week against Nevada. Of course, Nevada couldn’t put upt any points throughout the game, but it was the uniform and lethal aerial attack that thrived under quarterback Jimmy Clausen. The junior, who appears to have finally tapped into his potential, tossed for 315 yards on 15-of-18 and four scores. His receivers Michael Floyd and Golden Tate look like a very energizing pair, while tight end Kyle Rudolph has all the physical tools to dominate at both catching passes and blocking. The running game, though, still looks shady, and 178 yards via the run against a rocky Wolf Pack defense still doesn’t do much to convince me. The Irish easily managed to cover as 14.5-point favorites in front of their home faithful.
Michigan, also wowed their crowd, but it was the new guys that were able to seize the focus of the U of M sponsors. True freshman quarterback Tate Forcier tossed three touchdowns and conducted the offense for the majority of the contest, not having any slips. Another rising star in the works is the speed merchant Denard Robinson, who got some headlines in the offseason for leaving his shoes untied when on the field. Evidently he doesn’t need to, as a outstanding 43-yard scamper for a score proved he knows precisely how to make things happen when he gets the ball. Just like Notre Dame, the Wolverines covered the spread, as a 31-7 victory exceeded the 13 points they laid at home to Western Michigan.
Now on to this matchup. And the decisive component with two offenses that can both light up the scoreboard should be the defenses and which outfit is more effective when needed. Personally, even though I’m a Michigan fan, the Wolverines have a faster and stronger defensive unit. I think they are more capable of pressuring the quarterback, and the secondary appears more able to hold its own in the passing game. And that will be the determining factor, as Weis will surely make a firm choice to go down the field and see how able Clausen can be in loosening the defensive backs of the Wolverines for some action through the air.
Notre Dame comes in as 3.5-point road chalk. However the line across the board can be found at 3 if you compare between books. I would think keep steady between 3 and 3.5, and that could be key, as this should be a tight game the whole way up in Michigan. The dog has cashed eight of the previous 10 meetings in this series, but the Irish are 7-3 ATS in the previous 10 against Michigan. The Irish’s last win in Ann Arbor was in 2005, and U of M has won all but one of the previous five at home over the Irish. No total has been published yet, but if I had to make out a guess, I would guess around 44 or 45. Doc’s has a full slate of games going this week. Sign up today and cash in big!
