St. Louis Rams-Detroit Lions: NFL Week Eight Betting Preview
Week Eight of the NFL season throws up a clash between two of the worst teams in the NFL. Detroit has the better record of the two but has nothing to boast about, sitting at 1-5, last week enjoying a bye.
St Louis has had even less cheer this season, losing all seven of their games, failing to score twice already and last week losing 42-6 to the Colts.
Detroit is favored for the game on the money line at -200 (bet $200 to win $100 profit), leaving the Rams as underdogs yet again, priced at +177 (bet $100 to win $177 profit). In betting so far, 94 percent of money has backed the Rams to grab their first win of the season, and this is surely their best chance yet.
The point spread is set at four points, making the Lions favourites at minus-4 points and the Rams road underdogs at plus-4 points.
Betting on the point spread has been in the opposite direction of the money line, with 84 percent of money so far backing the favourites. Last time the sides met was in 2006 and the Rams won 41-34, but the was a very different Rams team that finished the season 8-8 in a year that saw Detroit finish 3-13.
So far this year the Rams have managed to improve on their pathetic record on the field by going 2-5 against the spread, covering in losses to Washington and Jacksonville, both on the road.
Detroit has also been better at covering than winning, at 2-4 against the spread.
The Over/Under for today’s game is set at 44 points, with 68 percent of money going on the Under. This could be due to the teams failing to score many points this season.
But they both concede many as well and have recorded eight Overs and five Unders in their combined 13 decisions.
Neither team is given a prayer by the bookies of winning the Super Bowl this year with the Lions priced at 1500/1 and the Rams an even larger 2500/1.
